The story behind
Munay – The Sacred Path
Munay was born among the looms of San Cristóbal de las Casas, Mexico, in 2023, inspired by the hands that carry the memory of the threads — weaving as a source of creation, and as a living reflection of the relationships that hold a community together.
Supporting women who weave life into their work and create one-of-a-kind pieces, Munay began gathering a collection of Indigenous ceremonial arts from Central and South America, drawing from the ancestral traditions of Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia and Peru. Through the hands and teachings of the mamitas, we learned the art of spinning, dyeing and weaving across different looms — each practice unfolding as a natural continuation of time, knowledge and memory.
Back in Europe, where Munay is now based, an impulse arose to travel to India and weave another bridge between territories. There, a collection of garments began to take shape, made from 100% raw cotton and naturally dyed.
A collection born from an invitation to become more conscious of what we wear — to bring into our everyday lives a natural second skin, in harmony with the Great Mother who provides for us all. And with the hope that we may learn to care for, honour and wisely tend to the resources held beneath her mantle.
Today, Munay carries a deep desire to keep spinning and weaving, to return to the very beginning and create pieces from the ground up. To offer garments made with intention, beauty and blessings — for those who feel called to wear them.
With gratitude to all the women who support Munay and its purpose.
We keep weaving, together.Haylli.
